In 2013 Medium (Corporate Entities) was originally commissioned on the occasion of 10000 to 50 an exhibition celebrating the twentieth anniversary of Business to Arts which took place at Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) just prior to the 2008 financial crisis. It was aquired for the IMMA Collection in 2014.
IMMA exhibition guide text (2015):
“McCrea’s complex photographic project responded to eight corporate collections sited at – A&L Goodbody, Allianz, Dublin Airport Authority, Dublin Docklands Development Authority, Harcourt Developments, Irish Life and Permanent, McCann Fitzgerald and RTÉ. 81 images resulted that comprise the basis of an artwork, which over time accrues a number of iterations. The first showing was a silent, slide projection, each image remaining clearly legible for 11 second intervals before being replaced with the next. An edited selection of the images appeared in gloss-print in the 10,000 to 50 exhibition catalogue.
For this first showing since its acquisition, McCrea re-edited the work. The former clarity of image register dissolves into a complex multi-layered, dreamlike experience with a soundtrack derived from a cut-up technique used on catalogue texts for the 2008 exhibition. In collaboration with the artist, the design of the installation space presents the viewer with a dead-end in one space. These developments are exhibition-specific and this work can continue to be as responsive to context as it initially was.”
